ABOUT US
About Us
Holy Cross Junior School Kiziba is a mixed day and boarding primary school founded in 2013 by the Sisters of Mercy of the Holy Cross. Rooted in strong Catholic values, the school was established to bring quality education closer to the children of Kiziba and surrounding communities, reducing long travel distances and offering a nurturing environment for holistic growth.
Over the years, the school has grown into a reputable centre of academic excellence and character formation. We pride ourselves on professionalism, discipline, and a learner-centred approach that empowers children to discover their abilities and prepare for a bright future.
The background of Holy Cross Junior School
School background Holy Cross Junior School Kiziba was established by the community in response to local demand: initially, it started as a pre-primary school in what had been the old building of a vocational training centre. The initiative aimed to provide education for all kinds of children “rich and poor, slow learners and quick learners” especially at their “tender years.” Because of growing demand, and the small size of the original building, a new separate primary school building was later constructed (adjacent to the old structure) to accommodate more children
The beginnings The community of Kiziba was historically affected by the 1980s insurgency (“bush war”), which left may families in poverty and sickness. The establishment of institutions such as the Junior School, a health centre, social work initiatives, and a vocational centre for girls is part of a broader recovery and rebuilding effort by the Sisters of Mercy. Through education (early childhood and primary) the school helps children from Kiziba and neighbouring areas access formal schooling potentially improving long-term outcomes for families previously disrupted by conflict.
